Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

This is where the critic in me comes out and throws a hissy-fit.....

This is the "sequel" to the 2007 "Ghost Rider" starring Nicholas Cage.  I put it as "sequel" because its really NOT.  Sequels are supposed to be a continueance of the original.  They are not supposed to alter plot lines, characters and basically change the story and expecte veiwer to redefine their knowledge of the story.

The original story:  Johnny Blaze, a daredevil stunt-cycle rider, makes a deal with Mephistopholes (the devil) to cure his father of lung cancer.  After "miraculously" being cured, his father dies in the middle of a motorcycle stunt the next day.  Having sold his soul to the devil, Johnny is now forced to do his work as "The Rider," Satan's loan shark.

Sequel story:  Johnny Blaze, "The Ghost Rider" must protect a young boy from Roarke (the devil).  The young boy just so happens to be the illegitimate child of Roarke and is prophesied to be the new vessel of the devil incarnate and will conquer the world.

I also might add, Nicholas Cage's acting in the first one was ok.  It was horrible in this one.  And Peter Fonda as the devil in #1 was methodical and brilliant.  Cirian Hinds as the devil in #2, weak and pansy-ish!

As a fan of comic book adaptations, I probably would have liked it better if they had just done a full-blown reboot with a new main actor.  Even still, the plot of this movie was dry, but was somewhat saved by a little humor.

In The Worx

Big news for children of the 80's.....Tom Cruise will be reprising the role of Lieutenant Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the sequel to the blockbuster "Top Gun".  Peter Craig (The Town) is penning the script for the highly anticipated sequel about a young navy pilot, determined to be the "Best of the Best."
